Langhorn Slim and The Law – House of Independents, Asbury Park, NJ – 10-29-16
Langhorn Slim opened the night with two solo acoustic songs before “The Law” joined him on stage; the second of the two solo songs he performed is one he was currently working on and comprised of his life and referencing “the Boardwalk” and “Summertime Ocean City.”
This was my first time seeing Langhorn Slim perform live since seeing him put on a foot-stomping blues shows for friends and classmates while we attended SUNY Purchase together. I was very fortunate to go to college school with a lot of talented artists … but when Slim performed an original song in our Songwriting class and I thought it was a Bob Dylan cover … knew that he would break through with his passion for music.
“The only two things I wanted to be as a child, was a musician and older, and I’ve… gradually… achieved…. both of those things. –Langhorn Slim
Slim “literally” brought the music to the fans midway through his set, leaping down off the stage to walk through the crowd and sing along with the fans at House of Independents. Their performance totally blew me away. If you’re on the east coast you can catch him later this month as part of the The Complete Last Waltz (The Capitol Theater, Port Chester, NY) with Phosphorescent, Nels Cline, Natalie Prass, Nicole Atkins, Rayland Baxter, Joe Russo, Scott Metzger, Sam Cohen , Ryan Miller and more!
Langhorn Slim & the Law are: Langhorn Slim (guitar, vocals), Malachi DeLorenzo (drums), Jeff Ratner (bass), and Casey McAllister (keys).
